YES, if your business has been operating less than 12 months, you are eligible for "Provisional Membership".

We want to encourage all business owners to learn everything they can about the technical requirements and industry best practice.

Our Industry Report and technical resources are even more advantageous to businesses still in the early stages, as they can guide some of the incredibly important foundational decisions you'll need to make around your branding, point of difference and place in the market.

These points can be make or break for new businesses, and experience has shown us that the businesses entering the industry without this kind of crucial information often fail within 18 months.

Our building contracts will also save you the larger initial investment of having to engage lawyers to create these before you even open your doors.

In addition, newer businesses often find it incredibly challenging to establish trust within the market, and attract those first few crucial sales. THIA membership is an important tool in establishing credibility as a newcomer.

Provisional Membership gives you
access to all the same information and resources as our more experienced members, however promotion opportunities will not commence until after we undertake an assessment at your 1 year point, and establish that your construction standards meet our benchmarks. At that time you would transition to full membership.

Yes. The Australian Tiny House Association (ATHA) is a volunteer organisation that advocates for the rights of those who choose to live in Tiny Houses.

At Tiny House Industry Australia (THIA), our primary focus is supporting the businesses working within the industry.

We see both organisations as complementary, and vital for the continued growth of the industry.

We recommend membership of both organisations.

At this point in time, the answer is no.

While most builders currently working within the industry do have building qualifications and trade experience, we believe it's important right now that education is accessible to all those who seek to contribute to the industry.

Part of our longer term mission is to work with builders towards the development of a new set of building guidelines applicable to Tiny Houses on Wheels.

We are presently considering whether it would be beneficial for there to be a qualification requirement for builders operating within the industry in the future.

At present, the legislation that applies to dwellings built on wheels and trailers differs from other dwelling types which are already catered for within existing planning and building legal framework.

While THIA's focus is on advocating for the Tiny House on Wheels industry, we have responded to feedback from modular and fixed Tiny Home builders and have now created a separate membership category appropriate for them. This gives you the same access to industry updates, reports, training, workshops and guidance that THOW builders have, which until now have not been available to you elsewhere.

To reduce our admin so we don't waste precious time chasing our members for renewal payments, we've chosen a subscription model of membership. This means your chosen method of payment will be debited automatically each year on your renewal date to ensure uninterrupted access to your Toolbox and member resources.

You can, however, cancel prior to renewal.

All current members appear on a searchable page on our website, so discerning buyers can find reputable businesses in their chosen area, along with recommendations on identifying the qualities evident of reputable businesses.

On joining and having your membership approved, you will also receive your digital membership badges. We encourage you to display this publicly on your website, social media and any advertising materials, to build trust with your audience and demonstrate your commitment to operating in a genuine and ethical manner.
